The 8th StoRIES Project Meeting took place on 12 June 2025 in Trondheim, Norway, hosted at NTNU and co-organised with SINTEF, within the framework of the Third StoRIES Summer School, held under the theme "Hybrid Energy Storage for a Sustainable Future". The meeting brought together partners from across Europe to reflect on the project’s progress, sharpen its impact strategy, and make the way forward as StoRIES enters its final phase. The Trondheim meeting served as both a progress review and a strategic checkpoint for future steps.
Emphasis was put on five core topics: an overview of project progress and deliverables, future collaboration beyond the project’s lifetime, the exploitation roadmap and intellectual property strategy, planning for the final conference, and safety and standardisation in battery energy storage, while sessions were led by representatives from KIT, EERA, EASE, and CLERENS, each contributing key insights to drive forward the technical, strategic, and organisational pillars of the StoRIES project.
With the support of Horizon 2020, the StoRIES consortium has continued to support research infrastructures, industry, and academia, jointly pushing the boundaries of hybrid energy storage. A detailed update from KIT reaffirmed the importance of tracking deliverables systematically while learning from challenges already tackled. EERA led a forward-looking session on “StoRIES after StoRIES,” proposing new formats for collaboration such as matchmaking sessions, stronger data-sharing platforms, and deeper integration with initiatives like CETPartnership and JRC.
EASE introduced a tailored exploitation roadmap and IPR strategy, emphasising that StoRIES is not a one-sided project. Stakeholder engagement, visual tools, and regular coordination stood as key elements to ensure alignment and conciseness. Planning for the final conference brought attention to formats enhancing engagement, such as policy workshops, networking sessions, and visibility for early-career researchers. Safety and standardisation, especially in BESS, were also addressed, with EASE calling for harmonised approaches and deeper awareness of technical challenges.
As the project approaches its final year, this meeting reaffirmed the collective drive to ensure StoRIES delivers real-world value, with partners committed to collaboration beyond 2025.
